SOS She's in disguise

A little diddy to get your weekend started, care of Shakira (a-wooooo!)

S.O.S. she's in disguise
S.O.S. she's in disguise
There's a she wolf in disguise
Coming out, coming out, coming out

A domesticated girl that's all you ask of me
Darling it is no joke, this is lycanthropy
The moon's awake now with eyes wide open
My body's craving, so feed the hungry
I've been devoting myself to you Monday to Monday and Friday to Friday
Not getting enough retribution or decent incentives to keep me at it
I'm starting to feel just a little abused like a coffee machine in an office
So I'm gonna go somewhere cozy to get me a lover
And tell you all about it

There's a she wolf in your closet
Open up and set her free
There's a she wolf in your closet
Let it out so it can breathe

Sitting across a bar, staring right at her prey
It's going well so far, she's gonna get her way
Nocturnal creatures are not so prudent
The moon's my teacher, and I'm her student
To locate the single men, I got on me a special radar
And the fire department hotline in case I get in trouble later
Not looking for cute little divos or rich city guys that just want to enjoy
But having a very good time and behave very bad in the arms of a boy

There's a she wolf in the closet
Open up and set her free
There's a she wolf in your closet
Let it out so it can breathe

S.O.S. she's in disguise
S.O.S. she's in disguise
There's a she wolf in disguise
Coming out, coming out, coming out

S.O.S. she's in disguise
S.O.S. she's in disguise
There's a she wolf in disguise
Coming out, coming out, coming out

There's a she wolf in your closet
Let it out so it can breathe

Week 14 standings

Well, lets just say some SOSers took last weeks poor showing to heart, with a whopping 122 points added. Here's our run down for week 14...

  • Monica is riding high atop our charts with 261 points. There was a lot to assist on... well done cowgirl.

  • Recycling, digits, on base action... Brooke racked em up this week and is at 188 points as a result

  • Chelsea had a weekend get away that she has yet to report on, so for now she's at 172 points

  • Cassie, Cassie, Cassie. Calgary was good to me. Now at 164 points

  • Pamela stays at 156 points for now, but she's pulling out all the stops this week, so I expect that number to head north shortly

  • Gwen, also quiet on the reporting front, stays at 115 points

  • Alex is climbing the charts again this week with her hot spur. She moves up to 86 points

  • Though she looked to be having a great time on friday if the pictures are any indication, no points were earned for Victoria this week. She remains at 75 points.

  • Gemma, what can I say. Something tells me she's going to blow her 23 points out of the water this week with our 'take it to the streets' challenge LOL

That is all.

Long Live Jesus Juice

Last night I happily spent the evening in a friend’s backyard drinking pitchers of sangria. We had fun experimenting with all of the different ways to make it. Summer and fun, colourful cocktails just go hand in hand. There’s something about the sunshine and warm air that can turn even the most devoted G&T drinker into a served-with-an-umbrella-style drink lover.

In the spirit of some of us Becker's favourite things - summer and booze - here are some cocktail recipes that may inspire you to have an impromptu gathering, or even just toss on a bikini and pass out in a kiddie pool in your back yard. By yourself. But that only happened once.

Summer Slush

1 cup gin or vodka
9 cups water
4 Lipton tea bags
2 cups sugar
1 can frozen orange juice, thawed
1 can frozen lemonade, thawed
7up or Sprite

Boil teabags in 2 cups of the water. Set aside and let cool. Boil the remaining 7 cups of water with the sugar. Bring to a boil and remove from the heat. Set aside to cool to room temperature. Once the sugar mix is cooled, add the orange juice and lemonade. Add water from the tea and squeeze the teabags. Add booze. Stir and freeze overnight. Serve topped with 2 oz of pop.

Best part: makes 40 to 50 servings!

Now get yourself cleaned up you hot mess you and throw a party. But not too many people – I said 40 to 50 servings, not 100. Don’t need to sober up earlier than necessary. Always nice to prolong flickin' on the ol' ugly lights.

Sex Wax

1 oz Bacardi
1 oz spiced rum
1 oz Malibu rum
6 oz cranberry juice

Mixed over crushed ice.

Crank your favourite song and sing your heart out. Screw Celine, the neighbours need to hear that all this time they’ve been living right next door to Canada’s next Canadian Idol.

Sex on the Beach – West Coast style

1 oz vodka
1 oz peach schnapps
Orange juice
Cranberry juice
Pineapple juice

Fill a glass with ice and pour in booze. Add equal parts of juices.

Take a snoop around Facebook and see how many ex-boyfriends have unlocked profiles. Comments: optional.
Poking: encouraged.

Sex on the Beach – East Coast style

1 oz vodka
1 oz peach schnapps
Orange juice
½ oz melon liqueur

Fill a glass with ice and pour in booze. Top with orange juice. Float the melon liqueur on top and garnish with a cherry.

Hey, now fire up that BBQ!

Woo Woo

1 oz vodka
1 oz peach schnapps
2 oz cranberry juice

Shake it up in a shaker full of ice.

Call up that friend of yours to propose the idea of opening a new chapter in your friendship book by becoming friends with bennies. Don’t have the number? S’okay, just post something on his Facebook wall. He’ll get it.

Nude Beach

1 oz gold rum
2 oz pineapple juice
1 oz orange juice
½ oz grenadine
Dash of lime juice

Combine in a shaker with ice, and pour over crushed ice in a glass. Garnish with a fresh lime.

Remember that first boyfriend of yours? Yes, that one. Why not pay homage to this special milestone in your life with a tributary tattoo? Call around and see who can fit you in for a last minute appointment. Immediately.

And finally, Tropical Itch
(what we’re all trying to avoid this summer)

1 oz vodka
1 oz rum
½ oz orange curacao or gran marnier
4 oz passion fruit juice

Combine in a shaker with ice.

Happy Friday everyone!

Encouraging you all to get your drink on,
Pamela

Just keep drinking.

The Fabulous SOS

Why so complicated?

I was thinking the other day about when relationships were simple. Boy meets girl, boy asks girl out on a date, boy and girl get along and decide to be boyfriend-girlfriend. Those were the good old days, weren’t they? That shit hasn’t happened to me since high school!

When and why did things get so complicated?

While I am well aware the object of SOS is NOT to get attached, we are certainly doing our fair share of dating, which = practice and exposure to our fair share of ‘situations’. The general consensus these days is that there are far too many games being played (when it comes to emotions. The SOS game doesn't count! LOL).

So what’s the trouble? Why are *some* men and women incapable of playing fair when it comes to dating/relationships? Below I propose some explanations – and am soliciting your feedback on this one.

Hypothesis #1 – blame the internet
  • Too much choice is never a good thing. With so many singles available to us through dating sites, this plethora of choice can lead to some thinking that something better could be just around the corner, so why settle with what’s in front of you.

  • Also - it’s far too easy to access singles (and sometimes not-so-singles), willing to do just about anything, at a click of a few buttons. It seems at the slightest hint of things going sour, or even when found with a few spare moments and spurred on by boredom, these days ppl are turning to the internet to find their next trick!

Hypothesis #2 – blame the English

  • Is it just me or have guys lost the ability to tell you what they are thinking? I mean, I am not looking for an essay on emotions, or a poem professing undying love (puke). A simple “I don’t think I am into it anymore” would save hours of speculation and time wasted not pursuing other hot men!

  • If you are having trouble coming up with the right words to say it, may I suggest the following site: http://www.dearjohn.com/

Hypothesis #3 – blame the weather

  • Maybe working indoors has affected peoples energy levels (vitamin D shortage) so much that this apathy is spilling over into our social lives? I am really getting tired of hearing “maybe he’s just not that in to me”, or “he cancelled cause he’s too tired”. Since when has a guy ever been too tired for sex???

  • Visit you local GNC - sort that shit out.

So… that’s my rant for this week. Maybe I’m just PMSing?

Would love your comments!

Week 13 standings

With one exception, Monica's latest post about an SOS recession was right on when it comes to this week's points round up. Dull, dull, dull!

  • Monica had no action to report, but remains in the lead with 213 points
  • I think maybe she's having sex on behalf of all the Beckers this week. Chelsea is back in the number 2 spot after some rendez-vous with White Shirt, Poutini and a new guy dubbed Audi. She's at 172 points
  • Brooke, with one recycle under her belt for the week, moves to 167 points
  • Pamela stays at 156 points for the week but promises to come out to play in week 14
  • Cassie snuck some recycling in to get her to 130 points for the week
  • Gwen has been dating and recycling under the radar, so I am guessing she's at 115 points this week
  • Victoria was out and about this weekend, but alas no points were earned (unless we start giving points out for impromptu and hilarious photo shoots!). She stays at 75 points
  • Alex stays at 66 points after Hot Spur went MIA last night
  • And our lovely Gemma rounds up the no-points pack, staying at 23 points this week.

I expect the Beckers are feeling a little burn out, but hope they can rally... this game is too much fun!

SOS Slow Down?

Well, it seems there has been a slow in activity, or it is really just a slow down in blogging? Have we come to a spontanous unannounced mid-season break? I know I don't have much to report, but I have a good reason, named Beer. So, what is going on with the others?

Hmmm, what I do know is several of the girls are doing a lot of regular recycling (Chelsea, Alex, Brooke.....hmm, who else? Cassie with GL when she doesn't cancel on him!).....and I hope those girls start talking about it soon!!!

I went for another round of karaoke earlier this week with Victoria and Cassie, and what a blast we had! Although there were no SOS points to be scored with a total of 2 other patrons when we arrived, and at most another 2 wandering in, we certainly took full advantage of all the air time available to us!

Last night I met up with Chelsea later in the evening and we decided to try out the latest Bay Street patio 'South of Temperence' . We ran into some friends, did many a shots and enjoyed the scene. Great patio with a good variety of old school music. Chelsea and I haven't had the opportunity to hang out much since my return from the East Coast so it was nice to do what we do best......we did meet up for Boot Camp class on Monday, but that is not our typical bonding (although given the way I felt this morning I am thinking Boot Camp is what we should switch to).

I don't have much going on this weekend, just catching up with some old friends, and of course heading out Sunday to watch World Cup.....but I know some of the other girls have some fun nights planned, fingers crossed that they opt to share there stories on here.

On a final note, in the event someone at Rogers is reading this I'd just like to say "Dear Rogers, don't call me, I'll call you". (telemarketing drives me bonkers- they just interupted my blogging for no good reason at all).

Kiss kiss bang bang,

Monica.

Without you I'm just another Dorian Gray

Hey folks,

It's Pam. It's been a little while so thought that I would check in to say hi, even though I won't be entertaining you (or attempting to anyway) with recaps of my point action. The past couple of weeks have been occupied with some other non-SOS stuff, but pretty awesome stuff at that. The proverbial schedule clouds will part soon, so don't you worry.

But just so you don't think I've gone too soft on you, I offer you one of my favourite songs - very inspiring! Yes I know, another annoying link to click but I promise you it has just the right amount of whimsy, sass and boldness to take you into the weekend. I myself haven't hung up my spurs just yet... don't you worry. Take a listen and I dare you not to want to get some.

Have a super weekend, and I promise I'll have something a little more for you soon! In the meantime, go out and get a little yourself... ;)

Long live summer,

Pamela

So long New Guy

So in my last update I figured Giant Loser was out, New Guy was in... apparently not so!

Over the last week or so, I have been hearing from GL on a regular basis, and he still wants to see me despite the fact I have cancelled on him twice in a row. Not sure how I am feeling about this dude any more - seems all he wants is alone time, which is cool, but I don't like feeling like a secret/shut in. I need to be wined and dined and taken out on the town sometimes too!! So we will see where this goes.

As for the New Guy - things seemed promising early last week with some more texting, but didn't hear a peep out of him from Wednesday last week until last night. After a drunken evening of karaoke with Monica and Victoria on Tuesday night, I decided it was a GREAT idea to text New Guy to see what the deal was and if I would see him again (it was a surprisingly light hearted and well written text despite the state I was in)... got a response last night, and I quote:

"Sadly I don't think anything can happen. I now have a friend with benefits under one rule that its exclusive"

Ummm dude, I think thats called a girlfriend??? What a douche.

So, outlook not so good on the point front for this Becker... well unless GL steps up. But, Calgary Stampede is just a week away - I am sure it is going to be a rocking good time and by the end I will be saying "New Guy, who??"

Peace out

Spain! Spain! Spain!

Monica Casillas .....it has a nice ring to it doesn't it?

Torres, Xavi, Pique, Ramos...oh the list goes on.....I think majority of the Beckers are cheering for Spain today, and I don't want to say too much to jinx it.....my nerves are already shot and it's hours before the game! So the orange guys won yesterday and I wasn't cheering for them; not because I don't like them, more because I have money against them and if Spain makes it to Sunday's match I'd rather they didn't have to play Netherlands.

Today is a new day, and perhaps today the team I am cheering for will win, can I be unlucky 2 days in a row?

Did I mention I am in love with Casillas? I mean just look at him! This is exactly how he'd be looking at me over breakfast after an evening between the sheets: http://oneloveawakening.files.wordpress.com/2009/03/iker-casillas-20-5-81.jpg

Signing off for now...... lovesick and hopeful,

Monica xxxxoooo (those are for Casillas, so don't even think about it!!)

Decisions, decisions

With the first semi final game of the world cup less than an hour away, and all my 'go-to' teams eliminated, I feel a good ole fashioned debate about who to cheer for is more than necessary.

First up: Uruguay vs the Netherlands

I have to say that I am not very opinionated or torn when it comes to these two nations. I hear rumblings that Holland are the favorites, but just ask Brazil what good that title did them! So I propose a good old fashioned hot dude assessment to help make the decision!

The ugly

  • This guy looks like a caveman. No points for Uruguay.

  • Remember the movie Goonies? I think this guy looks like Chunk. AND his name is Dirk. Negative 1 for Netherlands

The pretty

  • Uruguay ZERO

  • Netherlands +2! All I have to say is... hellooooo Maarten, you can protect my penalty box any day LOL. And check out the cutie with the dimples!!

So there you have it... Netherlands 1, Uruguay 0. FACT.

Tune in tomorrow for the much tougher debate... Spain vs Germany (tougher because of skill, not looks - Spain wins hands down!)

Week 12 standings

Week 12?!?!?! How time flies when you are having fun!

This weeks events and activities included an impromptu pub crawl, a booze cruise, Canada Day, trips to the cottage, Fourth of July and Gay Pride, to name just a few. Lots of stories, I am sure, but lets get down to the points...

  • Still in first place, Monica is at 213 points for the week. This is getting a little boring, we need to step up the competition here!!
  • But look out, Brooke leap frogs in to second place with a whole lot of Brit action... she's at 162 points
  • Next up is Chelsea at 157 points. No change since last week as White Shirt was out of town. Thats not to say she didn't have her fair share of opportunities to score with texts from Poutini AND The Counselor. But our little Chels kept her pants on... what a loyal little Becker!
  • Pam-elama-ding-dong is not far behind at all with 156 points. Although this may change - our baywatch babe was out on our fair seas this weekend, booze cruise styles, and I am sure there were some points to be had!
  • Cassie made no moves on the points front this week, due to being out of town with family. She remains at 125 points
  • Always the laggard, we have not heard from Gwen on the points front so she remains at 97 for now.
  • Ditto for Victoria, who remains at 75 points
  • Alex... proving slow and steady wins the race? She added to her tally over the weekend to get her to 66 points (and I hear is joining in the celebratory cake for Cassie and Chelsea!)
  • Gemma was being an excellent embassador for the city and acted as our official welcome wagon, landing at 23 points for the week.

Here's hoping this week is lucky #13!

Monica the Food Critic

OK, so my current job is not food critic, but it certainly doesn't stop me from trying.....and from what I remember being told as a kid, I can be anything I put my mind to. I tried food critic this week, and here is my review of Duggan's Brewery, at lunch, over a bottle of wine:
  • Let's start with the physical location, something about a brewery is always appealing, even if you are not drinking beer.....so it had that going for it. Clean and simple approach without that annoying modernistic look that is never comfortable and almost always clinical feeling.
  • To start we ordered a bottle of wine, and not only did the server open the bottle at the bar before bringing it to our table for inspection, it was the wrong bottle. This was the first indication of the kind of server we were dealing with, nice enough but not detail oriented.....and slow at best. Luckily we are fairly patience, especially after the correct bottle of wine was brought to our table. (Mission Hill, Pinot Noir.....not bad)
  • Duck Poutine- nice flavour as duck should provide, and pretty good poutine, as far as Toronto goes anyhow.
  • Curry Poutine- very much a standard protocol, The Flatiron pub's curry poutine is arguably better, and just a block or 2 south of this place if you are craving a curry poutine.
  • Onion Rings- good enough if you are craving onion rings, nothing special about them and be warned, the 'ketchup' is more of a bbq sauce, no thanks.
  • Beet Salad- I was very excited to see yet another restaurant embracing the fabulousness that beet's offer, however when this salad was served my first thought was "Where are the beets?", and even upon discovering them underneath the standard green salad I wasn't too impressed, sadly, as anything with beets is usually top of my list.
  • Beef Rib Dinner- by far the best thing we sampled that day, and worth going back for! The beef was incredible, tender and deliciously spiced in a jerk seasoning. The ribs sat on top of mashed potatoes that had red peppers cooked in with them, giving them a unique and delightful flavour, and to the side were a few spears of perfectly cooked asparagus (still a bit crunchy). Did I mention, this was an amazing dish? It was!
  • Lamb Dinner- very different than the beef rib dinner, I hope I never have to eat something as bland as this was again. Again, against the odds, since lamb is almost always a sure thing for me. This was cooked well enough to fall off the bone, but it was fatty and flavourless. It sat atop some couscous that wasn't all properly cooked. The dollup of spicy sauce on top of the lamb was the best part of this dish.
  • Pizza (The Feisty Hawaiian)- this was the last thing we ordered, and sadly didn't leave the best impression. Presentation was fine, delivered like a pizzeria on a tall platter, but it was this platter that made it that much easier to detect that it wasn't properly cooked. We could see uncooked dough, and on a thin crust pizza that is an amature mistake. Not to ruin a tasting, we sent it back to finish cooking, and upon redeliverly we determined there was far too much cheese. I often wonder why some chefs load a thin crust with too much, especially when there are other flavours there to showcase? In this case the tomato sauce could have stood on it's own; it was delicious, with a hint of cilantro and a nice sweet tomato sauce.
  • The atmosphere- it is loud and it felt like the wait staff was constantly rushing by, which was ironic considering how slow the service was. We only finally heard the music that must have been playing through the whole lunch hour when we were the only customers left in the restaurant, which at the point was an Old Lady Peace song....umm that doesn't scream lunch music to my ears, but given we were nearly done and awaiting our pizza to to come back out it wasn't top of our mind.
  • I will say we did exit on a high note upon discovering our favourite restaurant mints; individually packed white lifesavers.
All in all, not a bad experience, but not a great one either. I think we will need to try this as an after work stop, for some beer from the brewery and some oysters before striking it off the list.....and maybe that beef rib dinner again, yes, definately that beef rib dinner again!

Happy eating Toronto!

G'Day Mate - Playing with balls makes impromptu pub crawls more funl!

I would like today's blog to reflect the theme of our night, in the illustrious words of the great band named Trooper "We're here for a good time, not a long time...." Quite accurately reflecting how our night went...with an impromptu pub crawl!

After having my ass kicked on Monday night by our great plan to get in shape, my Wednesday night running was shot to hell, so what the hell, I needed to drink! I made my way over to the lovely 'well known' patio we all frequent, where Monica and I, downed a bottle of red wine, which kick started the genius idea of a pub crawl, and off we went. Me with my charm and wit in hand, Monica with her flask of voddy, which she whipped out on the streetcar because gawd forbid she go a 10 minute ride without booze in hand.

So, just when you think Australian men can't get any better, you meet an Aussie named 'Sharp Shooter'. Sharpie just moved from "down under" a few weeks ago to teach Aussies in the military. He's a gem and not too bad to gaze at I might add. Monica and I met him at Fionn's on St. Clair after downing our first 'lonely' shot at Sports Cafe while some old man yelled "kiss kiss kiss" while getting our piccie taken. Perv. Monica threw back a yaggerbomb (seriously, this is what she's now drinking these days?) and me, some voddy and red bull. After Monica telling the waitress that she and I are reuniting after 10 years of not seeing each other, and she's 'showing me the hood' because I'm returning from overseas (this is where I insert fake accent) we headed to Fionn McCools. Upon arrival, we meet Sharpie, sitting at the bar by himself, downing a beer and a conversation struck up from him very nicely, moving his stuff to let Monica and I sit at the bar. No sitting, only chatting and where Sharpie, "officially" joins our pub crawl (not sure if we forced him? but nonetheless, he still came).

Next stop - Scallywags, and when you go to Scallywags - who doesn't like running into their boss, and when I say boss, I mean the CEO of your whole company?! lol. Monica suuure DOES! That put the kybosh on a prolonged stay at Scally's, so we made our way to a pub that we don't know the name of, for a quick polar bear shot, and then landed at our last stop of the night - The Fox and the Fiddle.

Clearly, this was the one we missed out on all night, as it was a hit! Place was packed, with a lot of young'ns albeit, but still a crowd, so we'll call it a hit. This is where sharkies pool skilzzz came to light, beating team Monica and I three times. This is also the point in the night where I told Monica "I think Sharkie's gay." Monica: "No way, no he's not" Me: "Yeh, yeh he is" Monica: "No, seriously, he's not" Me: "Yeh, yeh he's totally". lol. I'm pretty sure I just kept saying it because I thought it was funny and because it was entertaining to keep throwing that at Mon. She probably wanted to plough me. Then after her disappearing to the bar for more pints, he and I got chatting, and I found out he was not gay as he talked about something to do with an ex-GF, so confirmed, Sharkie's straight. lol

And in pub crawl fashion, we closed that mutha daowwwn. Exchanged contact info with Sharkie as I did promise to 'keep in touch' after him saying he hoped he could remain in the pub crawl club (umm, of course ya can, if not for the accent alone, but to add some sheer eye candy to the pub crawl group, sheesh.). So, hopefully we'll be seeing Sharkie for a re-match in the future.

Peace out for now biotches. Keep 'er real.

Gemm xo
